The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), in partnership with The Conversation Canada, has launched In Conversation With, a new series of public talks featuring the winners of SSHRC’s 2021 Impact Awards.
Join in as Canada’s leading social sciences and humanities experts weigh in on the topics of today and tomorrow.
Editors from The Conversation Canada will moderate the live interviews and Q&A segments with these accomplished scholars, whose perspectives and research are shaping our understanding of people and society at large.
Each event is free to attend and will broadcast via livestream.
Video recordings will be made available for those unable to attend. Each session will be in either English or French, with simultaneous interpretation and closed captioning available in both languages.
The series begins on March 24, 2022, at 2 p.m. (atlantic), with “In the Public Domain: Restoring and Preserving Silenced Histories in Russia” with Lynne Viola.
Viola is a professor in the Department of History at the University of Toronto, and the recipient of SSHRC’s 2021 Gold Medal. She is a lauded researcher, author, teacher and world-renowned expert in 20th-century Russian history and the era of Stalinism. Viola’s colleagues have described her as "quite simply the single greatest living authority in the world on collectivization and the Soviet peasantry.”
