Scholars Portal Dataverse, hosted at the University of Toronto Libraries, and CARL Portage are pleased to announce the acquisition of over 275 TB of storage to provide Canadian libraries with increased storage capacity for research data.
The national Scholars Portal Dataverse service, in partnership with academic libraries, gives researchers at participating Canadian institutions a place to find, share, and deposit research data. Using a cloud-based storage model, the new national repository storage will provide for the secure, automatic replication of datasets across hosting nodes at multiple universities in Canada and can easily grow to handle the increasing volumes of data being deposited by Canadian researchers.
Currently, 55 Canadian institutions participate in the Scholars Portal Dataverse service. With this new storage, subscribers will receive an increase to their base repository storage amount as determined by a tiered model. This repository storage can be offered directly to researchers moving forward to support the deposit and long-term access to research data.
The support for national repository storage marks another step forward in the collaboration to develop a national Dataverse service for researchers across Canada. A national Dataverse service will create opportunities for researchers to collaborate and enhance knowledge creation and innovation by ensuring that data, metadata, and code are FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable).
