Dalhousie University invites applications from outstanding internationally-based (living and working outside Canada) scholars and researchers to fill one or more newly created positions of Canada 150 Research Chairs.

Located in the historic coastal city of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Dalhousie is one of Canada’s leading research universities. With our 200th anniversary approaching in 2018, Dalhousie is excited to welcome international scholars to join our mission of producing impactful and innovative scholarship. The Canada 150 Research Chairs Program aims to enhance Canada’s reputation as a global centre for research excellence, in celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary.

More information on Dalhousie, its research achievements, and its academic programs can be found online here.

The Canada 150 Chairs will be full-time, tenure stream appointments at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2018. Appointments will be made to the appropriate Dalhousie academic department. While applications are invited from all disciplines, preference will be given to candidates whose expertise aligns with our strategic research areas.

Successful candidates will be exceptional scholars with an established internationally recognized reputation supported by a scholarly record of achievement, productivity and impact commensurate with their career stage.  Applicants must have a PhD (or appropriate terminal degree for the discipline) at the time of appointment. The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate a strong record of innovative world-class research through: peer-reviewed publications; external funding; presentations at global conferences, and endorsements by leading scholars in the field. Dalhousie also places high value on innovation and effectiveness in training highly qualified personnel; and candidates who demonstrate exceptional ability or potential to instruct, collaborate, and lead teams will be preferred.

Canada 150 Research Chairs are designed for and restricted to applicants living and working outside of Canada; this includes Canadian expatriates wishing to return to Canada. Dalhousie University is committed to fostering a collegial culture grounded in diversity and inclusiveness. The university encourages applications from Aboriginal people, persons with a disability, racially visible persons, women, persons of minority sexual orientations and gender identities, and all candidates who would contribute to the diversity of our community.

Dalhousie recognizes that career paths can be diverse and that career interruptions may occur.  Applicants are encouraged to include, in their cover letter, an explanation of the impact that any career interruptions may have had on their record of research achievement.

Consideration of applications will begin July 20, 2017 and will continue until the position(s) are filled. Applications should include a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a statement of research interests and achievements, the names and contact information for three referees, and a completed Self-Identification Questionnaire, which is available online here. Please send applications by email to Miriam.Breslow@dal.ca, and include “Canada 150 Chair” in the subject line of your email.
