Government of Canada International Assistance Policy Review

Posted by Suman Jha on June 6, 2016 in Announcements

On May 18, 2016, the Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of International Development and La Francophonie, launched a public review and consultations to renew Canada’s international assistance policy and funding framework. The aim is to rethink Canada’s policies and programs in order to better respond to the challenges and opportunities of the new global context, and create a road map for an international development approach that will be refocused on helping the poorest and most vulnerable people, and supporting fragile states, while advancing the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

From now through July, Canadians and their international partners are invited to participate in this consultative process and provide their feedback through a variety of methods.  The consultations will focus on specific themes:

  • health and rights of women and children;
  • clean economic growth and climate change;
  • governance, pluralism, diversity and human rights
  • peace and security;
  • responding to humanitarian crises and the needs of displaced populations; and
  • delivering results by promoting innovation and improving effectiveness, transparency and partnerships.
