Strategic Partnership Grants Target Areas and Research Topics

Posted by Suman Jha on January 4, 2016 in Announcements

Dear colleagues,

I want to share with you the decision of the NSERC management team to implement some changes to the 2016 Strategic Research Grant competition. The intent is to show our nimbleness and ability to quickly address the new Canadian Government priorities.

First, for the Strategic Partnership Grants, we re-established relevant research topics identified in the 2010 - 2015 period related to forestry, fisheries, mineral deposits and water in order to complement the new topics that were identified with your support for the current competition cycle.

Second, for the Strategic Networks, NSERC will be accepting Letters of Intent at the target area level (Advanced Manufacturing, Environment and Agriculture, ICT, and Natural Resources and Energy) unconstrained by current research topics or research challenges. Applications are encouraged in clean technologies across all four target areas and with a focus on climate change, including impact, mitigation and adoption (if appropriate).

The Strategic Partnership Grants target areas and research topics have been posted on the NSERC web site, and the 2016 competition cycle is now open for submissions.

NSERC will continue to refine the research topics and challenges as needed to ensure they stay relevant for Canada.

Your significant contributions to establish the current target areas and research topics have been tremendous. We look forward to our continued collaboration that will ensure that these programs keep us on the edge of science and innovation.

Sincerely,

Dr. Bettina Hamelin, PharmD, EMBA
Vice President
