Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) Innovation Fund Competition and Dalhousie Application Process

Posted by Maeghan Murphy on October 21, 2013 in Research Funding

The draft Call for Proposals for the next large-scale CFI competition is now posted on the CFI website.

The name of the fund is now the Innovation Fund (previously LEF/NIF). CFI is accepting comments on the Draft Call until October 29. The final official Call for Proposals is expected to be posted by CFI in November.

As in the past, Dalhousie will hold an internal competition to determine which applications should proceed. Researchers will be asked to submit a 4-5 page Expression of Interest (EOI) by November 20 to their Dean for review. Deans will be asked to rank order their Faculty’s EOIs and submit to the Vice-President Research office (Nancy.Hayter@dal.ca) by December 4 for senior admin review.

The Application Process including the Expression of Interest requirements is attached.

The universities’ envelopes for this competition can be found on the last page of the Draft Call. Dalhousie can submit applications requesting up to $17.3M from CFI. All CFI funds remaining at the institution, i.e., projects Dalhousie is leading and partnering on with research infrastructure to come to Dalhousie, must be included in Dalhousie’s envelope. Based on past competitions, Dalhousie might expect to lead/submit up to 5 or 6 applications. This does not include the applications on which Dalhousie will partner.
