Closed Captioning
Closed captioning presents audible information in text form. Captioning is critical in making online education accessible to viewers who are deaf or hard of hearing. Captioning is also a learning aid that helps increase comprehension, accuracy, and engagement for all students and community members, especially those for whom the spoken language is an additional language.
Automatic captioning capabilities are available in Panopto.
If the automatic captioning is not meeting your needs, Academic Technology Services (ATS) is pleased to offer human captioning support for your instructional videos, to edit and correct the automatic captioning.
This process normally takes 24–72 hours to complete once captioners begin working, though factors such as the duration and number of videos to be captioned at one time impact the expected time to complete the captions. If a request is time sensitive, please make note of this in the form and the coordinator can provide a detailed estimate for time of delivery.
Captioning support is available to all Dalhousie instructors.
Captioning support is provided by ATS with Strategic Initiatives Funding (SIF) provided by the Provost’s Office to the Dalhousie Libraries.
