The Dalhousie Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology presents:
Does Place Matter? Debates and Burial Decisions of Muslims in Canada
Dr. Chedly Belkhodja
Principal and Professor, School of Community and Public Affairs
Concordia University
This presentation looks at the complex relationship between immigration, religion, burial decisions, and sense of belonging. Drawing upon two case studies of Muslims in London, Ontario and Sherbrooke, Quebec, we examine Islamic funeral and burial services available in these cities and the preferred burial locations of its Muslim communities. Research findings are discussed in relations to multiculturalism and recognition of cultural and religious differences.
