Augy Jones

In the realm of Inclusive Leadership and Community Advocacy, Augy Jones stands as a vanguard.

Augy recently took over as the Executive Director of African Nova Scotian Affairs with the provincial government. For the two years prior, he was the Principal at Nova Scotia Community College's Akerley campus in Dartmouth. Augy's journey blends strategic leadership with a profound commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (EDIA). His inclusive expertise is underlined not only by his educational pursuits, his work abroad and his personal passion for human equity but also by his robust professional trajectory.

Hailing from the distinguished lineage of civil rights activists Rocky and Joan Jones, Augy's foundation was laid in a home enriched with discourses on civil rights, community building, and empowerment. From an early age, he was immersed in conversations focused on uplifting and improving diverse communities. This community-oriented approach has been at the center of his professional life as a senior executive, principal, teacher and public speaker.

Augy’s experience in education includes 20+ years as a high school English teacher, two years as a School of Education professor, two years with the NS Department of Education and two years as principal of Nova Scotia Community College. His 20+ years of public-school teaching includes 10 years in the Caribbean (St. Lucia, Guyana, Jamaica, Bahamas).
