About us
Dal News, a service of Communications, Marketing and Creative Services, is Dalhousie University's news website. We aim to provide timely, relevant campus news, told through vibrant stories that keep the Dal community informed, engaged and excited by what happens across the university.
We publish stories on an ongoing basis, sharing them in a number of different channels including the Dal News Weekly email to all students, faculty, and staff.
Two other platforms also live under the Dal News umbrella: Today@Dal, a daily campus digest for faculty and staff, and the Dalhousie Events Calendar. We also work in partnership with other communications teams, sharing content with Dal Student Life, Athletics, Alumni and others.
Dal News stories
We're always looking to hear about interesting people, news or events at Dalhousie that would make for a great story, and we welcome suggestions and pitches from across the university. Story ideas should:
- Directly involve students, faculty, staff and/or alumni
- Have wide interest across the university, beyond just a particular department or faculty
- Demonstrate significant impact on the Dal community or the general public
- Be timely
- Be interesting or genuinely new
- Be entertaining to our readers
- Reflect, in some capacity, the university's strategic priorities
Please submit story ideas to our managing editor, Matt Reeder, at matt.reeder@dal.ca.
Due to the volume of inquiries, we are not able to address every request for coverage. Your news or event may be a better fit for Today@Dal or the Events Calendar rather than a Dal News story, or be more suitable for consideration by Student Life, Athletics, Alumni or your faculty/department/unit's communications staff.
Please provide us with sufficient advance notice for upcoming announcements and events. Given high demand for coverage, having appropriate lead time ensures we can properly allocate the time and resources to tell your story.
If you're interested in pitching your news/event to external media, please contact the media team.
