Flu Shot Clinics

Avoid the flu and stay healthy this year

Each year, Dalhousie Student Health & Wellness offers flu shot clinics to the Dalhousie communities in Halifax and Truro. Students, staff and faculty (and their families) are able to get their flu shot for free*. Mobile clinics are set up at various locations through Dal campuses during the fall (vaccine availability pending).

For more information about protecting yourself and others from the flu, as well as information about the influenza vaccine, please visit the Public Health website.

Our Halifax campus will have both the regular flu shot and the high-dose flu shot for people 65+.

Symptoms of the flu

Common flu symptoms include:

  • Stuffy or runny nose and sneezing
  • Sore throat
  • High fever
  • Aches and pains
  • Fatigue
  • Headaches

Be proactive!

Take these simple steps to prevent the flu:

  • Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly
  • Keep your hands away from your face
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that you touch often
  • Cough and sneeze into your arm, not your hand

Why should you get the flu vaccine

The flu is responsible for about 12,200 hospitalizations and 3,500 deaths in Canada each year. The vaccine is safe.  Getting the flu shot every year will help to:

  • Reduce your chances of getting the flu
  • Protect the people around you. The flu is contagious and can spread quickly and easily. You can spread the virus without showing symptoms
  • To avoid serious complications that can result from the flu including pneumonia and respiratory failure

For more information about the flu and the flu vaccine, visit the Government of Canada website.

If you do get sick

Follow the tips above (under being proactive) and stay home until your symptoms are gone.
